Skippy the Bush Kangaroo is an Australian television series for children telling the adventures of an intelligent pet kangaroo called Skippy, a wild female Eastern Grey Kangaroo. The stories revolve around Skippy's adventures in the Waratah National Park including events in the park, its animals, the dangers arising from natural hazards, and the actions of visitors. Skippy is an orphaned kangaroo rescued from the bush and brought up by the Raymond family. She is a kangaroo of amazing ability and intelligence, able to understand and communicate with humans, open doors, untie and tie complicated knots, operate a radio, play piano and drums, rescue bushwalkers and foil villains. The huge popularity of the show has enabled it to win many impressive awards including an AWGie, Penguin and Logie Special Award for Best Export Production, and the Charlie Award for Best Promotion and Contribution to the Australian entertainment industry.
