I share with you how mortise and tenon joints on my sawhorse project were cut. Over the years I picked up pieces of mortise and tenon technique(s) I liked from Norm Abram, Paul Sellers, and Roy Underhill; I adapted the mortise and tenon techniques I learned from these men and added my own preferences. I use a basic set of tools to cut mortise on pine purchased from the hardware store. I use a sliding compound miter saw with a depth stop like a radial arm saw to make the shoulder cut on the tenon, and to reduced the amount of wood on the cheek cut of the tenon. Be aware that any twist and bend in the quality of the wood can proportionally affect the mortise and tenon joint. I recommend getting a mortise and tenon marking gauge to save time on the mortise and tenon layout. Demonstration 9. What is demonstrated here is how I cut mortise and tenon as of 4/2014. I reserve the right to change how I cut mortise and tenon in the future. I hope you enjoy the video and decide to give mortise and tenon joinery a try, always be safe.
