It seams like everyone these days wants a mill reticle scope. The words mill reticle even sound cool and hay, the snippers use them right? So they must be better, right? Well before you go out and waist your money let me tell you something extremely important. The turrets MUST match the reticule. That means in plane english if you buy a scope with a mill reticle the turrets must be in mills. The NEW SWFA 3-15x42 does just that. Now before you figure out that I hate Scopes with MOA turrets let me tell you that I HATE scopes with MOA turrets. I had two MOA turreted scopes before this one and after tasting the fruit I will NEVER go back, ever. Second most important thing about a scope is that the tracking of the turrets must be perfect. With SWFA you will never have to worry here. I won't even bother to prove it on video because others have already. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6tLiN9jvYA Adjusting zero is also easy and there is a good vendor out there that supplies zero stops for the Mill turrets. http://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&persist_app=1&v=4Sz_qP21yNs To adjust zero three screws must be loosened. The entire cap can be taken off without compromising the nitrogen purged guts of the scope. You can also adjust the turret up and down just enough to make it line up to the top of the revolution lines. This way if your zero is in between two lines you can go up to the next one for easy reference. I love the older style turrets. I hear SWFA is fazing these out and if you guys at SWFA are watching please don't do this. I like these turrets. There is lots of room on them to apply stickers for drop tables and using gloves is really easy with the older style vs the new. Another aspect of this scope that I will draw attention to is that it is heavy. It weighs more then my 56mm scope from Barska. I don't think any one will ever have to be concerned with the rugged quality level of this scope either. It is rugged and can take about as bad a beating as I could give it this past hunting season. Snow, rain, sub zero temps, being thrown into the back of a truck, all this did not change point of impact. Now before you think I don't like the fact that its heavy, stop there. Heavy in my book is cool. The finish on it is also very durable. It's a ruff textured matt black. Every time I have put a mark in it, a wet rag has been all that was necessary to get it spotless again. The zoom ring has a supper handy fox tail as I like to call it. It can be removed if your bolt handle interferers. By the way you should check that. You don't want to get caught with a charging moose and have the fox tail trip up your bolt cycle. For Rock solid bolt users on the Mosin this is pretty much guarantied to be a non issue. I love the new reticle. This is a first focal plain scope. The only kind of scope I think that should be made. I found that in very low light the 5.5 power was the best setting. An illuminated recital would be a nice feature for the future and is actually the only negative comment I have for this product. For a hunter using this scope let me share a tip with you. Always hunt with your power setting to 3x. If a deer walks up on you unnoticed and suddenly you need to shoot something thats 10 yards away you will be happy that you were already zoomed out. If game is spotted at longer distances you will most likely have plenty of time to zoom to maximum power.
