In this video, we will show you how to lock cells in excel. So, let's say you have an appraisal sheet that you want all employees to fill out, but don’t want them to be able to change the formula over here in this cell. In excel, all the cells in the worksheet are locked by default. For restricting users to make changes to a cell, the cell must be both locked and protected. So here we need to unlock all cells in the worksheet except the one containing the total score, and after that protect the worksheet so that no changes can be made to that particular cell. ➡️ Let’s select all the cells in the worksheet by using the shortcut key “control” and “A”. On the Home tab, in the Alignment group, let’s click the small arrow to open the Format Cells popup window. ➡️ After that, we will click on the Protection tab and over here, we need to make sure that the Locked check box is unticked. Now you can close the popup by clicking on the "Ok" button at the bottom. This will unlock all of the cells in the worksheet. ➡️ Now let’s select the cell we want to lock, in this case it’s the cell showing the total score here. Let’s open the format cells popup window again and move to the protection tab. Over here, we can tick the Locked checkbox and close the popup window. Now all the cells in the worksheet are unlocked except the cell containing the total score. ➡️ Next, let’s password protect our worksheet by going to the review tab and in the protect section here, lets click on the protect sheet option. It will open up a prompt asking us to input the password. Once that’s done, it will ask us to confirm the password. With the worksheet protected, you can see that excel is allowing us to modify any of the cells here. But if we try to edit the formula in the cell containing the total score, it gives us an error. That’s all. ❓💬 What would you like to know about Excel Excel opportunities functions?
