In this video tutorial of Computer Hardware and Software Architecture, I have taught about different form factors of a computer case. What is form factor ? Mini Tower (mini-ITX) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXPCFzNoaMs Revising, form factor is the shape, size, and layout of something. The shape size and layout of a computer case may be different as per the features of the case. So they are classified into different categories. We discussed about Small Form Factor or Mini-ITX in the previous video. So, let’s know about other form factors of a computer case. Talking about Mini Tower form factor, it’s standard is mATX/ITX. • mATX Stands for micro ATX or ITX stands for Information Technology Extended • It supports both the Mini-ITX and micro ATX or ITX motherboards and use the same power connectors permitting the use of full-size ATX power supplies • microATX was explicitly designed to be backward-compatible with ATX • The mounting points of microATX motherboards are a subset of those used on full-size ATX boards, and the I/O panel is identical. Thus, microATX motherboards can be used in full-size ATX cases. • These cases use motherboards containing up to 4 expansion slots (maximum permitted by the specification) • However, in order to conserve expansion slots and case space, many manufacturers produce microATX motherboard with a full range of integrated peripherals. Now let’s have a look at the picture of Mini Tower Form Factor. This is the case that we generally use in our home or for office Desktop PCs. This is quiet bigger than small form factor but smaller than Mid-Tower computer cases. It allows better airflow and more on-board and on-case peripherals than the Small Form Factor. Now, let’s see the structure of the Small Form factor case of mATX standard. This is white assembled, mini tower or mATX/ITX Case. Some cases even come with transparent side panel. The common dimension of most of the Mini Tower cases is 422mm width on the side and 205mm width in front side and 396mm of height. This dimension may slightly vary as per the manufacturer. The black color with gradient mix looks very beautiful and the front panel of this case is on the top. It may be on the front, so depends upon the design of the manufacturer. The front panel generally includes Input/Output ports like, mic, speaker and USB and power and restart buttons including the power LED. If you open the case, you will see, the places for motherboard both the mATX and ITX, CPU Cooler on the motherboard, Graphics Card of 390mm and the power supply unit bay on the down left side. On the right side, we can see places for 2 hard disk bays of 3.5-inch. Also on the top right we can see hard disk bit for 2 hard disks of 2/5-inch size. Likewise, here we can see places for other components like case fan and water cooling system.   Now, let’s learn about Mid Tower or the ATX form factor. • ATX Stands for Advanced Technology Extended • It’s the most widely used computer cases • It supports almost all the motherboards --Mini-ITX, MicroATX, ATX and EATX(Up to 272mm or 10.7-inches) • ATX or the Mid Tower case is designed to support the same features as modern desktop computers such as Gaming PCs, servers, etc. • Usually the case contains 2 to 4 internal drive bays and a similar number of external bays (for CD/DVD readers and similar) • ATX cases designed for Gaming PC and High end server may contain water cooling outlets but the cases designed for normal use may not contain the water cooling outlets. • And, it supports two 120mm radiator fans Having a look at the pictures of ATX or Mid Tower case, we can see the case from different manufacturer. As per the manufacturer, we can see some slight differences but in common they all have the same features as we discussed earlier. Moving ahead and talking about Full Tower computer case that has the specifications of EATX. • EATX stands for Extended Advanced Technology Extended • It’s popular among server builds, gamers, and people who want more space for more hardware components • Full Tower case is compatible with EATX 12 x 13, in larger form factor motherboards with more functionality, ATX and Micro ATX motherboards • EATX boasts room for up to seven case fans; includes three pre-installed 120mm fans and one 140mm fan; supports optional 80mm rear fan • Most of the EATX cases are capable of installing 360mm liquid cooling radiator in front to achieve optimum cooling potential • Generally, full tower computer cases are designed with dual slot vertical GPU mounting expansion slots and dual Power Supply Unit (PSU) mount support on top and bottom Okay guys, if you are from Udemy and have any question regarding any of the topics we discussed in the video, please write me in the Q&A section.
