Throughout Friday and Saturday Storm Callum unleashed the latest battering of storm season, with torrential rain and gale force winds. MAN didn't see the worst of the storm but was still subject to harsh conditions, I arrived at MAN around 9 and didn't leave till just after 3. Winds didn't reach much more than 35 knots but what made it interesting was the direction. Winds varied between 180 and 200 degrees making for a good amount of crosswind action. In this video you'll see a variety of bumpy approaches and landings from EasyJet A320's and 320NEO's (G-EZRM from Belfast and G-UZHH from Malta standing out). TUI 757's & 767's didn't fair much better with some very bouncy landings. FlyBe's new liveried G-JECP was bounced around on the approach also! The conditions caused some violent windshear on the approach causing 5 go arounds, 3 are featured in this video as I had to leave rather promptly to catch my train home. First was EI-FTJ operating FR3205/RYR32BR from Rome CIA. The aircraft aborted around 1000 feet up. Next was G-JZHO operating LS760/EXS760 from Mahon. The first approach was broken off around 500 feet, after following the missed approach procedure and getting back on the ILS, the aircraft encountered windshear once again, this time within 100 feet and over the runway threshold, after this second more dramatic go around, the aircraft subsequently diverted to STN. Fantastic day here at MAN, these storms are really good fun to spot in! Thanks for watching!
