Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7: Setting up network using a NetworkManager text user interface (nmtui) nmtui is replacement for system-config-network-tui from previous Red Hat versions. 1) NetworkManager-tui package must be installed (it is part of minimal RHEL v7 installation): yum install NetworkManager-tui 2) to start NetworkManager text user interface run command nmtui: nmtui 3) On your exam there may be or may not be a NetworkManager connection. 3.1) Please choose Edit a connection and then if there is not any connection press (Add) button. Select Ethernet type of connection and press (Create) button. Configure connection like shown below: NOTE: Name of device can be obtained with ip a command or nmcli dev show command. 3.2) If there already is a connection you can add a new connection or edit old connection. 3.2.1) To add 2nd connection please follow steps from 3.1 section, but you have to activate new connection as well and disable first connection to Automatically connect in case if new connection will be deactivated or removed. To activate your connection run: nmtui Choose Activate a connection Select your connection and press Activate button This will deactivate your first (old) connection. To disable old connection to Automatically connect when new connection is deactivated or removed run: nmtui Select Edit a connection Select unwanted connection and press (Edit...) button Uncheck with space key [ ] Automatically connect You can also delete unwanted connection at all: nmtui Select Edit a connection Select unwanted connection and press (Delete) Confirm that you want to delete the connection pressing Delete button in the confirmation screen. 3.2.2) To edit given connection run: nmtui Select Edit a connection Select given connection and press (Edit...) button You have to reactivate your edited connection. - first you need to deactivate your connection. To deactivate connection run: nmtui Choose Activate a connection Select your edited connection and press Deactivate button - then you need to activate your connection. please follow Activate connection from 3.2.1 section to Activate a connection. NOTE: Please do not deactivate and then activate connection from nmtui if you are connected to server remotely using that connection, because you will not get a chance to activate it back. In such a case use: nmcli con up (con_name) To check your ipaddress, please use ip a command: ip a To verify your default gateway, please use ip r command: ip r To verify DNS servers configuration, please use dig command: dig redhat.com NOTE: you need to install bind-utils package for dig command.
