Upon receiving a temporary resident visa to enter Canada, you can check the date of issue and date of expiry. You may get either a single-entry visa or a multiple entry visa. With the multiple entry visa, you can visit Canada several times prior to the expiry date. However, the single-entry visa only allows you a single visit to Canada before the expiry date. It is the officer at the port of entry who determines the duration of your stay in Canada. He/she will stamp the visa and this authorizes you up to a 6 months’ stay in Canada. If you are required to stay for less than 6 months, the officer at the port of entry will specify the early date in your passport. You may apply for an extension 30 days before the expiration date.
