Software Defined Networking and OpenFlow

Software defined networking (SDN) is a type of network virtualization that separates network control from the data flowing through the network as a software implementation. Instead of needing physical access to network hardware devices, SDN provides network administrators with programmatic control of network traffic. This programatic access allows for networks to be more efficient by implementing rules closer to the network traffic origin, rather than at a more limited set of network choke points. At HP Discover, I spoke with Dave Tucker and Bruno Hareng about SDN and how OpenFlow allows companies to build their own software defined networking solutions.
