Paper money collector Joel R. Anderson is a major figure in the American publishing industry. As director and chairman of the Anderson Companies, he oversaw a portfolio of diverse businesses in publishing and retail. The Anderson Companies operate Books-A-Million, the country's second largest book retailer, Whitman Publishing, and Anderson Press. On March 22, 2018, Stack's Bowers offered the first part of a multi-part auction of Joel Anderson's extraordinary multi-million dollar paper money collection. The 64 lots that make up this first section include many six-figure banknotes, many bordering on $1,000,000 in value. It includes the rarest of the rare and many of the finest known for their type.
