Is the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) a monopoly? Several former fighters from Nate Quarry to Cung Le to Jon Fitch and others have taken the UFC to court to not only have that claim proven, but have the court system take action to compensate them accordingly. This video is not intended to cover that lawsuit. Instead, it's a more academic claim: is the UFC a monopoly? Aerick Koerner joins me to answer the question. In his assessment, no, it's not. It doesn't meet the definition. Instead, Koerner argues it's a monopsony, which is a market condition in which there is only one buyer. More importantly, Koerner argues the UFC is a specific kind of monopsony, known as a price-discriminating monopsony. In this video, he lays out his case for that classification and explains why being a monopsony is just as pernicious in forcing fighter pay down. -- LINK to PRESENTATION: https://tinyurl.com/y67f6wcb -- MERCH: https://teespring.com/stores/luke-thomas-store -- CONTACT INFO: *Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/lthomasnews *Instagram: http://www.instagram/lukethomasnews *Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/lukethomasnews *Email: lukethomasnews at gmail dot com *SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/thelukethomas *Podcast: http://www.itunes.com/promotionalmalpractice #UFC #Monopoly #LukeThomas
