J. Walker and I'm the public speaking expert for How Cast. How did I get into this? Well, when I was a little boy I was quiet. I was shy. I basically never talked to anybody. One day I was twelve years old and I was in junior high school and I entered a Fonzie look alike contest, the character from Happy Days. I had a little more hair back then. And I won. The reward was I got to do the junior high school TV newscast the next day, the Bicentennial Minute. This is back in 1975. And this was my first taste of being in front of the camera; first taste of dealing with the media. And you know what; I found that I liked it. A few months later I ran for student government, the Student Council, and I won. And I found myself giving speeches and presentations, and soon after became a student government leader for the whole school, and was routinely speaking in front of 1,200 students. And ever since then, nearly forty years later, everything I do in some way relates to speaking to the media, or speaking to live audiences. I found that I enjoy it--it's fun. I was a little weird, I'll admit it. Most people can't stand the idea of giving a speech; it makes people nervous to give a speech. I get nervous if I go more than two days without giving a speech, or without going on TV or radio. I love it, I enjoy it, and I like helping other people do it. Now unlike a lot of trainers I try to actually practice what I preach, so I go every week on radio and TV talk shows. In fact, a couple of years ago I actually set the Guinness Book of Records for most talk show appearances ever in a 24 hour period. I did 114 talk shows in just 24 hours. So I try to continue to practice what I preach. I do train people like you and others all over the world. I train presidents of countries, prime ministers, Nobel peace prize winners--even Miss Universe on how to speak more effectively. And believe it or not, everybody is actually the same; everybody wants the same four things when it comes to learning how to speak. They want to know how to look comfortable, confident, relaxed, not nervous, stiff, or scared. They want to know how to be understood when they're speaking. They want to know how to make their message more memorable. And they want to know how to get people to take the actions they want. That's what I teach people, and it is so much fun, because I get to learn about new industries, new people, travel the world, so I train people. It doesn't matter if they're in Paris, Dubai, Mumbai, all over the world and right here in New York City. If I can help you speak more effectively I would love to do it, because I share the secrets I've learned over the last nearly 30 years with every person I train. The real training comes not from me giving you a lecture or telling you don't do this; it comes from us doing practice speeches on video, practice interviews on video. We watch it; we figure out what works, what doesn't work. Doing that again and again, that's what will make you effective. That's what I do. So if I can help you, please reach out to me. You can find me at Media Training Worldwide; that's www.mediatrainingworldwide.com. I'm also on Twitter @TJWalker, Facebook, TJ Walker. I'm easy to find, and if I can help you let me know.
