Package about the heroic actions of Sgt. William Rollins. His valor in Afghanistan earned him the Silver Star. The Nation's 3rd highest award for gallantry in combat was presented to him during a ceremony at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California, Dec. 17, 2010. Across the branches, the Silver Star is the third highest military decoration that can be awarded for valor in the face of the enemy. Sgt. Rollins of Houston, Texas, was on reconnaissance patrol in Afghanistan, in June of 2008, when his Marine squad was ambushed by Taliban fighters using machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades. Sgt. Rollins, the squad leader, engaged the enemy "in the face of certain death" and provided suppressive gunfire that allowed his Marines to escape the ambush. Moving through enemy fire, Rollins helped pull a wounded Marine to safety. Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment (2/7) from Twentynine Palms, Rollins is now out of the military. The Silver Star Awards ceremony was held Dec. 17 at the Marine base and attended by his wife, parents and 200 Marines. Interviews: Sgt.
