A hike visiting the villages of Westerwijtwerd, Middelstum, Toornwerd and Onderdendam. Also the hamlet Fraamklap. Though flat as a pancake - here, just north of the city Groningen, lies a very very scenic area where the landscapes are dominated by meadows and local waterways. The countryside is sprinkled with little villages, hamlets and farms on the so called 'wierden'. Wierden being the manmade mounds on which the people of the Iron Age, Roman times and early Middle Ages kept their feet dry from the here ever-ongoing intrusions of the sea. Over here every village still has it's own windmill. Furthermore I passed by the remains of two castles/countryhouses - that of Ewsum, where i bought produce from the castle garden, a pound of Snow Peas, and the gatehouse of the house of Asinga. As usual, some route information provided. The music is from Bluetech, 'The Light'
