Giovanni Valderas is a professor and visual artist from South Dallas. He was born and raised in the Oak Cliff neighborhood, which is in the midst of gentrifying. His newest art project takes aim at the issue and attempts to advocate for affordable housing. It’s called “Casita Tristes (Little Sad Houses).” The casitas are piñatas with sad faces. This video shows him placing the casitas in front of new developments in his neighborhood.
