Rather than focusing on your anxieties about what could happen, it’s helpful to think about the things we can do instead. Washing our hands, wearing a mask, and social distancing are all useful tools. Remember, it’s a normal part of life to get sick now and then! When we do, our family and loved ones will take care of us and we’ll get through it. Even if you can’t talk to yourself from the future, you can still find someone to discuss your feelings with. A friend, parent or trusted teacher can help you recognize and cope with your health anxiety. Share Chris’s video series with other people you know and see if any of them feel the same way. It’s a fun way to share your feelings and maybe help your friends out as well! Remember, it’s ok to talk about how you feel. ► Have you felt anxious about getting sick? ► Can you think of anyone else who may feel the same way you do? ► What do you think ‘future you’ would say, if they could time travel? ► Who is someone you trust that you could talk about your feelings with? ------------ Stay tuned for more Time Travelling Pizza, featuring Chris Crust as he visits himself from the future and helps himself out. With humour and heart, Chris Crust normalizes anxiety in an entertaining way and encourages seeking help from a trusted parent, teacher or friend. As a parent, educator or health care provider, it can be difficult to talk to pre-teens and teens about mental health, especially during the pandemic. Anxiety Canada has created the Time Travelling Pizza, Caretoons animated series to open the door to communication, allowing youth the understand that they aren’t alone in their feelings and that talking about their fears can be very helpful. Many teens don’t realize that what they are feeling is anxiety, as we all face new situations daily during the pandemic and beyond. Being able to name their anxieties, recognize symptoms of anxiety, and understand the impact it has on their lives, are important steps that you can help them with. Keep the conversation going! Let kids know that it’s ok to talk about their feelings and give them a safe space to express themselves. It can help if you also discuss your own anxieties so that they know they are not alone.
