But we will need even better battery technology in order to power the innovations of the future! A future filled with robots, electric VTOLs, and electric vehicles with ranges comparable to their petrol counterparts. There are many researchers around the world developing cutting-edge battery technology, and the technology I am most excited about is Solid State Battery Technology. Research for Solid State Battery Technology has exploded recently and there is a global race to develop and commercialize it. But before we get into all of that, since Solid State Batteries are similar to Lithium Ion batteries, let’s quickly cover how a lithium-ion battery works. First, solid state batteries will be safer. You see, the liquid electrolytes in lithium-ion batteries are flammable, and the batteries creates a lot of heat. On top of being safer, solid-state batteries will perform better than batteries today.
