In this video I'll show you a a scenario where you can use the Sight N Go function on your Garmin GPSMAP 66 device. If you are used to map & compass navigation you will probably know this. In this scenario - we will travel in a known direction (bearing) and we have to go around some obstacles like trees or water. We can use the Sight N Go to lock in bearings and box around the obstacles. In other words we do 90 degree pivots so that we can resume our original bearing before we hit the obstacle. In order to do this properly, you will need to know your original bearing and a topo map so that you guess-timate how far you need to travel to get around. From the COMPASS page, press MENU and select SIGHT N GO. From here point the device towards the direction of travel you want to take, just like a compass. Once you hit the right bearing, press ENTER the LOCK DIRECTION. You can SET COURSE or PROJECT WAYPOINT. Personally I would use PROJECT WAYPOINT since you need to know the distance you deviate from your original travel in order to get to back once you cross over the obstacle. If you are using a TOPO map, then this will be very handy.
