RESINDENTS OF MBEERE SOUTH CALL FOR SETTLEMENT TO ENJOY THEIR FREEDOM ON THEIR LAND Residents of Mbeere south sub county celebrated their Jamhuri day by asking the government to settle the title holders of the 54,000 acres of Mwea scheme in the Mbeere south sub county. They accused some of the leaders by imposing themselves with large parcels of land that is more than a hundred acres and requested the government to sub divide their large parcels and give it to those that missed a piece and yet they are residents of the scheme. They pointed out that the government should quickly settle those with less than ten acres titles as it sub divides those with large parcels. Speaking during the Jamhuri day at Gachoka Stadium yesterday representative of the old age Mr. John Ireri said that some of the government officers have subdivided the larger pieces amongst their family members as some have not been allocated even an acre. The former member of county assembly for Mwea Ward Adrew Musakwa says that if the referendum takes place before the settlement then Tharaka Nithi will also ask for a share of the land since the counties might be merged together The member of parliament for Mbeere south Geoffrey King’ang’i warns those collecting money from some people in the sub county assuring them to provide with security when things become worse and said that there is piece in the scheme and those that were not considered the government will not leave them to suffer but will each get a piece as far as there is evidence from the representatives of each village from this fertile large piece of land. King’ang’i says that the government will conclude the settlement within a period of three months and said that there is no conflict between the Mwea national park and residents of Makima adjudication area. Deputy county commissioner for Mbeere South Charles said that the government will give another land board at Gachoka since the land transactions is quite high.
