This should allow astronomers to get more information on more gravitational wave events using a new yardstick called Standard Sirens. The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) has has really turned the astronomy community on its head over the past few years. It’s actually been around in some form for quite a while - it’s been making observations since 2002 - but the years when it was observing between 2002 and 2010 produced no gravitational wave detections, they began looking into make it better. #spacefannews #standardsiren #LIGO #gravitational waves Consider supporting Space Fan News: https://patreon.com/DeepAstronomy to ensure you get current space & astronomy news each week!
