Professional learning is not restricted to official professional learning settings. Professional learning can occur in every conversation between educators. Watch Viviane Robinson discuss three values that increases the likelihood of an ordinary conversation turning into an open to learning conversation. 1) Respectfulness of others. Educational leaders are powerful people. Their decisions can have far-reaching consequences for the lives of especially students and teachers. Therefore, they should seek to be respectful of others, eg teachers, and vice versa. 2) Maximizing valid information. The taken-for-granted assumptions of educators, driving their current thinking and practice, should be checked and sometimes challenged. This can be done in many ways, not only by using hard data. 3) Promote internal commitment. Educators should experience that they are doing the right things for the right reasons, and be passionate about it.
