Niu Jia Quan "Ox Family Boxing" is practiced by members of the She ethnic group from Banyueli Village in Xiapu county, Ningde prefecture, northern Fujian. Niu Jia Quan is said to have been created by Banyueli's "Lei Clan Ancestor". This ancestor is said to have created the style after being inspired by a fight he witnessed between two Water Buffalo. Niu Jia Quan contains five sections of boxing methods. These are Niu Jia Quan "Ox Family of Boxing", Hu Jia Quan "Tiger Family of Boxing", Hou Jia Quan "Monkey Family of Boxing", Su Jia Quan "Withdrawing Family of Boxing", Shan Jia Quan "Dodging Family of Boxing". Of these five sections the Niu Jia Quan section forms the basis and contains the three core elementary sets. These sets are Wu Bu Quan "Five Step Boxing", Long Hu Quan "Dragon Tiger Boxing", and Ba Bu Quan "Eight Step Boxing". Efforts are being made to preserved this system with it being taught to schoolchildren within the village.
